Export to Codex and ChatGPT

How to download a purchased pet for Codex and ChatGPT and install it.

Only purchased pets have an export. Subscription pets, the pet kept after a subscription and the free pet have none.

Download

  • In your account, under “Bought forever”, click “Download for Codex/ChatGPT”.
  • Or click “Download for Codex” on the pet's page.

You get a zip archive: the pet's folder with pet.json and spritesheet.webp, plus instructions in English and Russian.

Codex (app and CLI)

  1. Unzip the archive and put the pet's folder into ~/.codex/pets/ (or into the pets folder inside CODEX_HOME, if that variable is set). You should get ~/.codex/pets/<pet folder>/pet.json with spritesheet.webp next to it.
  2. In the Codex app open Settings → Pets, click Refresh and choose the pet. In Codex CLI type /pets.

ChatGPT in the browser

If Pets is available for your account, open Settings → Personalization → Pet → Upload pet and upload spritesheet.webp from the archive.

Pets in Codex and ChatGPT is an OpenAI feature and is not available for every account. We prepare the files in OpenAI's published format, but we do not control those apps.
